Ron Stearns was born, February 11, 1940 to his German immigrant parents, Helen and Curtis Stearns and his big sister Ruth, at the Queen of Angels hospital in Los Angeles. Little Ronnie
Stearns spent his childhood years growing up in Hollywood. Ronnie attended Hollywood High School, where he would make two friends that would be instrumental in shaping his late teen years and early 20’s. They were Bill Jackson and Don Ratican. Bill, Don and Ronnie shared a love of driving fast cars. This was especially evidenced by the fact that Ronnie had received 20 speeding tickets by the time he was 18 years old.
Ron met Janet Osborn, a Burbank native, in 1961 and they quickly fell in love and were married six months later.
Ron, settled into a job with PacBell and become a telephone man in 1960. In 1962 Janet and Ron welcomed their first addition to the family, Timothy John and 2 ½ years later, they welcomed their second child into the family, Elise Marie. Ron would spend endless hours throwing a baseball/softball and playing catch with Tim and Elise in the front yard. Ron would go on to coach Tim’s baseball team all the way through high school.
In 1973, Ron and Janet had their third child, Katherine Ann. She added a new spark to this growing family. Ron and Janet raised their kids, taking them on numerous camping and water skiing trips and later they’d spend summers in their Hawaii condo that they co-owned with their good friends Hank and Irene.
After 25 years with PacBell,
Ron took an early retirement and went to work for himself, working at Dodger Stadium handling their phone systems on game days, working with the major networks, handling the phone systems at the major PGA tournaments and for many years, handled the communication systems at the Rose Parade. Ron would later develop Stearns Communications, which has kept him busy ever since.
Today, Ron resides in Burbank, California and enjoys spending time with his family, especially his newest granddaughters, Grayson and Ella.
He enjoys travels with his wife, Janet of 48 years, watching drag races on t.v., playing internet poker and he still bowls every Tuesday night, something he’s been doing for the past three decades.
